Role of the 5 Tastes in the Treatment of Emotional Problems

Combining Western Herbs
and Chinese Medicine
Western herb combinations can be used successfully for the treatment of emotional and psychological problems, such as anxiety, panic attacks, fearfulness, depression, bipolar disorders, emotional lability, and sleep disorders.

Understanding the 5 tastes, and creating a proper balance of the tastes in
a herb combination can make treatment both safer and more effective.

INTEGRATED SYSTEM:

The new system presented in this workshop goes beyond the limitations of the old Western and Chinese concepts of taste.

This new system integrates concepts from three paradigms:

- Chinese medicine
- Western herbal tradition
- Phytopharmacology

This system gives the practitioner a broader and deeper understanding of how to use the taste properties.

UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS OF EACH TASTE:

Jeremy describes the unique characteristics of five herb properties, focusing on:

bitter - sour - sweet - acrid - aromatic

He links these taste properties with direction of energy movement, herb temperature, and herb actions. as described in Jeremy’s revolutionary new book Westliche Heilpflanzen und Chinesische Medizin.

RANGE OF POTENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Tastes don’t just have one function: they can have a range of potential functions.
Which function manifests depends on the state of the patient, and each function can treat one of the main diseases of modern times.

This workshop discusses the different functions of each taste, with examples of the Western diseases and Chinese syndromes that can be treated by each function.

BITTER FUNCTIONS AS AN EXAMPLE:

The Western concept of bitter is mainly the function of digestive tonic, and the Chinese concept of bitter is mainly the function of clearing Heat.

The new expanded concept of bitter allows us to go much further, and includes eight different bitter functions. This allows us to treat some of the most important disorders of modern times.

Bitter functions - Western diseases -

1. Cardiac - cardiac weakness and arrhythmia

2. Digestive - digestive and appetite disorders

3. Hepatic - side effects of medical drugs

4. General tonic - chronic fatigue syndrome, anemia

5. Anti-stress - tension headache, anxiety, insomnia

6. Antimicrobial - new epidemics, recurring infections
antipyretic, -fevers
anti-inflammatory-inflammations such as rheumatic and skin disorders

7. Immune-auto-immune and allergic
regulatory - disorders

8. diuretic, laxative - edema, constipation, toxic states
detoxicant

TREATMENT OF EMOTIONAL DISORDERS:

Each taste has its special contribution to the treatment of emotional disorders.

For example:

- sweet - the heaviness and solidity of the sweet taste property can treat
emotional insecurity and emotional lability and help in the treatment of bipolar syndromes

- aromatic -the lightness of the aromatic property can help to lift and disperse the
heaviness and stagnation of melancholy and depression

· sour the astringent aspect of sour can firm Kidney and Heart Qi and reduce
the scattering effect of fear and anxiety on the mind and emotions

IMPORTANCE OF BALANCING THE TASTES IN A HERB COMBINATION:

This is the advanced art of herb combination.

Optimizing the balance of taste properties between the individual herbs in a combination can result in more sophisticated combinations, increasing both effectiveness and safety in the clinic.

Jeremy shows how to combine taste properties so that their beneficial effects enhance one another, and shows how to use one taste to moderate minimize the potential side effects of another.Lieferung besteht aus 3 CD's.
