Chinese medicine in general and acupuncture in particular is effective for a surprisingly wide range of eye disorders. This great success is partly due to the concept that each individual part has a relation with the internal organs (Zang-fu). This fundamental concept has not yet been incorporated into orthodox medicine. In this talk we will give a brief summary of the anatomy of the eye, a description of the main related organs, and a more detailed discussion of specific eye disorders for which acupuncture offers a treatment that is as good as, or better than orthodox medicine. For these conditions, the aetiology, pathology, differentiation of syndromes and treatment will be given, together with likely outcomes.
